Ignition And Diesel/water Filter Warning Light

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 1987 4l diesel long wheelbase landcruiser,

I was driving home when the ignition light suddenly came on and the volt meter dropped to 24v,at the same time the diesel/water seperator warning lamp came on to.

Having both these lights come on at same time makes me think its not the alternator.

I have checked to make sure there are no loose connections etc...

Does anyone out there have any surgestions as to what could be causing these lights to come on?????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did I read this right??

Ignition light comes on and voltage drops to 24 volts??

If this is the case and the voltmeter is reading twenty four volts,

then sir you have a problem, your alternator should put out about

14 to 17 volts which will charge the Battery and power the system, but

24 volts suggest to me it is not regulating it's self in which case stop

using it pronto.

If I have misread and you meant 2.4 volts then it might still be

alternator, it does depend on where the voltage is being measured,

if it is across the Battery then it could be a loom fault.

Good luck, hate wiring faults, not because they are difficult to cure, far from it

but I hate pulling off all those panels which never seem to go back the same.
