2007 1.6 Auto Gear Change Question

I have been driving the car since buying it today to make sure I am happy with it. Overall I am very pleased. Good spec, well built, comfy and a nice place to be.

The only question I have is around the gear change. It seems to suck energy from the car and the nose dips when the car changes up. I have a Lexus isf and the gear change is seem less. I am not expecting this but was not expecting it to be quite so laboured.

Is this normal?

Also, as there is no 'park' do you leave the gear shifter in 'e'??

From your description "It seems to suck energy from the car and the nose dips when the car changes up" it seems you have the MMT gearbox which is not an automatic gearbox but an automated clutch system. If you search for "Toyota MMT" you will find the pros and cons of this system. Unfortunately it was not a great success for Toyota but they are not alone with this type of system. There would seem to be a knack to getting a relatively smooth drive from this tpe of automation, though I have not personally driven the Toyota system I did have use of a Peugeot with it for a short time and found it hard to get it to drive smoothly.

Indeed. Apparently coming off be accelerator slightly during shift makes it smoother. It is indeed the mmt variant. Lovely car will just take some getting used to I think.

Than you for the reply.

Toyota still use the MMT on the second generation Auris in a couple of European countries.
