2002 D4D 2,5 Power Steering Leak Mystery

Hi all,

Its been a while since i,ve been on the forum as my Yaris and RAV4 arte pretty much bombproof, so far :hang:

Ive been asked by my brother who owns an 02 Hilux 2.5 d4d for advice on his vehicle leaking power steering fluid. The jeep needs topped up every week but i have looked over it and for all aspects and purposes, can see no sign of a leak anywhere. In fact, the engine is as dry as snuff, no leaks of any fluid visible. It looks like an engine that has done 30k let alone 130k.Ive traced the pipes from the reservoir to the power steering box and back to the pimp which is situated on the very bottom right of the engine. I cannot see a drive belt so i,m assuming that it is either gear driven or electric. The mystery deepens in that when we went to change the oil this weekend, there was way too much in the engine, in fact we drained 9.5 litres out of the engine that should have held around 7.

Does any one on here know how the pump is driven on this vehicle and maybe has anyone ever come accross this before?

(I initially thought, diesel leaking from the injectors but there is no great smell of fuel from the oil, also there are no signs on any sludge or emulsifying so i,m ruling out water at the moment)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
