No, the car temp guage is working fine and not overheating. The car heater is just blowing cold air.

To my mind something is happening with the servo motors which alter the settings when you turn the heater control knob.

Hi again mine is a 07 avensis it was located under driver side of the dash beside the back of the heater, pull back the carpet a bit where it tucks under the plastic

you will see it as it has a white lever turn your heat up and down and this lever should move if not that's your problem mine wasn't working on the driver side but if yours isn't working at all it could be another problem mine has dual control so this is a common problem let me know if this helps

The passenger side one can be accessed easily enough by removing the glovebox, if that side needs looking at.

Did you get a resolution to this GEO?

Today, my heater started to blow cold air.

Was in the car, had the temp set to the red dot, changed the output to the 'face' setting and over 4 or 5 minutes the air went from being really warm to being cool!

So the options are:

1) Coolant

2) Thermostat

3) Servo motors

Any other suggestions?

this car is starting to rightly píss me off

No eja I didn't. Changed and flushed out coolant pipes and also put in new thermostat but still same. Both pipes going into car from engine do be hot but it still blows cold air inside. I've been told the heating matrix may be gone but don't ask me where that is as I haven't a clue.... Now my turbo sensor is gone!! I'm cracking up now. I think toyota may change their quote " Best built cars in the world" to " pot luck if you get a faultless one",,,,, lol

Thanks for the reply Geo.

I was just back from getting supplies to service the car when this happened.

AFAIK the heater matrix is located on the passenger side behind the glove box to the right.

I will replace the thermostat first, if that doesn't work I will top up the coolant and if that doesn't work I will look into the heater matrix

Quick follow-up.

Was back out in the car and the same thing, cold air when turned to red dot. Noticed when driving at normal speed 2.5k revs the aire was hot but when I stopped at lights the revs to 800 cold air started to come out???

Revved to 1200 and the air got hot again!!!!

Anyone know what might cause this?

I have a new thermostat ready to go

Thanks GEO.

I'll go ahead with the items above anyways and see what happens.

It is strange that the temp increases if the car is revved.
