The article is incorrect re brands available globally - stating Toyota has two (Toyota and Lexus) as Scion is only sold in the US, and VW eight.

Skoda isn't sold in the US and under their current five year plan, there are no plans for this.

The article does seem to display a certain degree of bias against Toyota - eg. as regards investment, only talking about Toyota's production freeze and implying they are not investing in new models. They also do not mention VAG's profit margin issues, where, on mainstream models (VW, Skoda, Seat), the profit margins are only around 2% - or less than half that of Toyota.

Like any similar article, it doesn't tell the whole story.
