Alarm System Fobs

Hi folks,

I've just bought my first RAV4, and my first car.

It was very cheap.

A '96 RAV4 GX with 71k on the clock.

My question is this: the alarm fob was missing, and it only had one key.

I'll bite the bullet and buy another key, but is there anything I can do in terms of replacing the alarm fob?

I'd rather not spend a fortune having a system fitted if I can use the factory fitted unit.

Thanks in advance!

Is the alarm a Toyota alarm or a third party system? Does the alarm fob have anything on it to identify the manufacturer? Toyota alarms are often identified by the term 'TVSS' (Toyota Vehicle Security System), and usually had stickers on a couple of the windows to highlight figment.

It's a Toyota alarm. There was no fob with the car, I'm afraid.

A new fob from a Toyota dealer is likely to be expensive. Think I would approach a good auto locksmith or vehicle security system installer to see what they suggest.

If you buy a new key it will have an immobiliser chip embedded in the head so will need to be programmed to the car.
