Help? 1999 Transponder/ Immobiliser Problem

My apologies if this is not particularly technically correct!

I have lost both my 1999 Avensis keys and now only have the grey 'spare key'. I can open the car and drive it with the alarm going for the first 30 seconds of each journey. The alarm then goes for another 30 seconds each time I leave the car. (Much to the delight of my neighbours and co-workers.)

I have been told I will need to buy a new master key from Toyota, and can then create a new transponder key myself, following instructions off the web. I'm fine with this but...

I can buy 2 new keys with a matching ignition barrel and transponder much more cheaply. If I do this, can I just replace that and use my old key to open the door, with the new ones being used to turn off the alarm/ immobiliser? Or is there a management system that is going to need re-chipping or suchlike as well?

Any answers greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have always been told that you need one of the black remote keys. With technology moving on, some locksmiths can now make a new keys.

There are machines that can scan and grab the codes to the programme new keys.

My reasoning is that much more expensive luxury cars are stolen by this method, so it is doable to replace your keys.

When I enquired with Toyota about a scenario like yours, they quote £1000! The locksmiths are a fraction of that and you get 2 keys.

Search for auto locksmith in your area.

Thank you Konrad. As luck would have it; I found one of the master keys AND I won a few £s on the horses yesterday!

Both of these happened shortly after I had been to Toyota and been quoted exactly what you said.

Thank you for answering; I've found a local auto locksmith now.
