Hi all, just a quick question, whilst braking under any conditions from about 20mph or less my brakes squeal like a bus!! is there anything I can do to stop this? The brakes work perfectly well and there is no sign of wear.

I think there maybe dirt/grit in the caliper is there any lubricant I can use to clear them...water doesn't help.

thanks in advance,

michael.

get them checked over for free at somewhere like kwick fit etc.

My brakes squeek now and again. I just recently got my pads changed. The garage said it looks like the pads have some heat damage on them due to my harsh braking.... DOH !!

I'll be getting uprated discs and pads soon. That should solve my heavy braking.

wouldn't a lubricant mess up the pads so they don't grip the disc?

Use 'copper grease' between the pads and the calipers, it's heat resistant and stops the pads vibrating under light braking.

Or you might have a stone in your brakes/worn out pads.

And in between the anti-squeel shims.

Mind you, I did all that and my front brakes STILL squeal :( (only at low speed with gentle braking).

If they are squeeling under gentle braking, you'll find that it will be one of two things. A fair bit of brake dust acumulated in and around the calliper/pad area or metallic particles in the pad itself. If the squeeling persits (or only) under heavy braking, it's normally down to worn pads and it's the wear indicator touching the disc.

Whichever, get a kwickfit or brakes specialist to give a free check as Jimlad said.

I have a full photographic "How-To" available for anyone who is contemplating changing the front discs/pads. Can save £££ by doing it yourself - not rocket science :P

I have been trying to upload/submit article to "Workshop Submissions" but there are to many images in it... (Any help on this one mods?)

Oh, and to add, some very high performance brakes just squeel - and there's not much you can do about it. Just listen to a lot of supercars stopping :P It's got something to do with the material and make-up of the compound of brake pad.

I Have the same thing, have recently had new pads, disks and overhauled calipers, thought the squeking may be due to wearing in new brakes, but its still going after about 300 miles!:unsure:

I know what u mean about the bus thing, the other day I was next to one and was like is thathim or me!! :P

That's something I'd like to see :)

I've had the pads out on mine, pretty easy, but always wondered how you'd get the disc off - whether you'd have to remove the other part of the brake that the caliper attaches to.
