Have a 2000 avensis and there was a rattle in the rear.

Replaced:
*Rear Shocks. * 2 Rear Top Mounts. * Rear Droplinks.

Still a rattle/ knocking noise coming from the rear off the car on a rough road.

all bushings/ arms are good and no play in them either. and its not the exhaust .

Fitted Spurious KYB Top mounts and thinking thats the problem maybe.?

Not in the A.R.B rubbers as i dissconnected the droplinks on both sides and the noise in still there

Thanks in advance

Spare wheel, jack, wheel changing tools all firmly anchored?

When you did the drop links, I assume these are the ones to the anti-roll bar?

When I first had my car I found that the stops were not close enough to the mounting bushes. The amount of movement meant the anti-roll bar moved to one side, touching the under body. This was the source of my knocking sound. Check the clear

What I did was remove the rubber stops and placed them closer the the bushes, using jubilee clips to secure them. This limits the side to side movement.

That was 11 years ago and the car has been as good as gold.

The bush is to the left and the now rusty jubilee clip is securing the stop after 11 years. Left hand rear. Right is the same.

I posted this fix years ago, but it is quicker to describe than find the original post.

Lets hope your issue is this because it is cheap and simple.

yea i meant the ones connecting the anti roll bar to the shock itself..

Dont think thats the problem as i removed the droplinks from both sides on the rear to eliminate the anti roll bar altogether and the noise was still the same :( ..

Section_06112014_1504 (1).pdf

the shock assembly doesn seem to have a washer/ spacer between the top mount and the shock, but i think if i place one in , it might solve the noise

So long as the anti-roll bar is not fouling the body (check for marks, the clearance of the bar to any part of the body, especially in the wheel arch area), then it must be the strut itself.

Make sure the spring has not broken. It can be easily missed.

You need to get assistance to bounce the car to see if you can replicate the noise, then find the source of that knock.

The drums should not rattle unless something has broken internally. They are easy to inspect, having taken mine apart for cleaning.

anti roll bar seemed fine.. I disconnected both droplinks from the rear shocks so the anti roll bar wouldnt be in use, But noise was still there.

Replaced the 2 Stabaliser arms running from the hub lenghtways up the car and seemed to have done the trick :) .

Couldnt hear the noise when shaking the car up and down. Could only hear it when crossing stones/ Rough roads.

thanks for the help :D
