Yaris 64 Plate Usb Plug In Settings Problem

I have the New 64 plate Yaris and I am having a problem with the USB plug in

I have over 1000s songs on the USB and it works great, my problem is when

I turn off the engine I lose all the settings I have applied to the USB stick

it just reverts to the last played song which is annoying.

Anyone had this problem or know a fix for it

BTW all other settings applied to my FM Radio Phone and Ipad on Touch Screen are OK

Hi,

What do you actually mean by this statement?...

"...the settings I have applied to the USB stick..."

There aren't any settings you can "apply" to the USB stick that I am aware of...

and...

"it just reverts to the last played song which is annoying."

That's the normal behaviour AFAIK...

"Anyone had this problem or know a fix for it"

Not sure if this is an actual problem as such?

Colin

Let's explain a little more

USB stick, On the touch screen I select songs shuffle then random start a song selection and as long

As I don't turn off the engine I enjoy songs at random/shuffle of the 1000s. But as soon as turn off it

Reverts to,playing the last song with no other songs to random/shuffle just one song

Yet the touch screen allows you to alter bass treble etc which sticks and no need to re enter again

That's my problem

Right. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that all those settings you have just described are basically stored in the head unit. Nothing gets "written" to the USB stick at all during the process.

The head unit is capable of distinguishing between different USB sticks (by using its embedded unique identifier) but that's all it does to "remember" the last song played.

Terry, you are not alone. Had my 64 yaris for two weeks and still having problems with touch 2. The handbook is useless as it describes the previous version. With shuffle on I have to press it again when starting the car but it does show all the songs. Have you put your songs into folders?

I used Windows media player to transfer my albums on to the U.S.B. but had to use another computer as mine did not transfer them across properly as they kept repeating.

However, putting them into folders means that when one album comes to an end it repeats itself even with repeat function off. So you have to go to browse and select another. Surely it should play the next album (folder), my previous Auris player could manage that!

I have just tried my USB stick on my Touch 2 Head Unit in the Yaris and it is exactly the same behaviour as it was (same stick) on my (older) Touch HU in the GT86. They haven't changed the behaviour at all between the two versions in this respect.

My stick is produced by copying in its entirety the default "My Music" structure from the hard drive of my desktop PC produced by Windows Media Player. By default that is a series of folders based on Artist first, then Album (within that Artist's folder) then tracks within that album. On my stick there are a total of 3,154 tracks.

I've found that the only way to get it to randomly shuffle across all of those tracks (no matter what the album) all of the time is to first use the "Browse" button, then select "Songs" (not Artist or Album) which will bring up all of the songs it finds on the USB stick in alphabetical order (might take a while on a large stick...), then make sure the "Shuffle" button is set and then finally just choose any song that you can see and it should start playing that song.

If you now press the ">" button it will go to the next randomly selected song (on whatever album it happens to be on). Subsequent presses will produce the next random track etc etc. Changing from USB back to Radio or simply removing the stick results in the HU "remembering" which track on the stick it was playing (and is why it always plays the same track when you put the stick back in or change from radio to USB - this is the default behaviour for all Touch HUs). The HU also remembers whether "repeat" or "shuffle" was selected for that stick (I just confirmed that multiple times with my stick and another stick which I set differently). At no time is anything at all actually written to the stick itself to produce this behaviour. It is all done in the HU itself.

Martin, for it to work properly, the folder structure should be as I just described in my other post. The base folder should not be an "Album". It should be by "Artist" and then "Album" inside that folder.... (the sub folder name being the Album title itself)

Thanks Colin for precise description of the folder structure required on the USB, and the operation of Touch 2. Have now mastered it after following your advice.

As an aside, it is strange that my original USB i used on the Auris, which I have now found, refuses to work properly on Touch 2. It will only play one Album. Perhaps Touch 2 is a more demanding system. I am not the only one to have had problems. The Lexus CT200h forum also covers this topic although there system is probably far superior to mine !!!!!!

Thanks again.

Me again. Touch 2 is driving me up the wall.

On my previous Auris when you press > once it would go to the next track. Touch2 can manage that. However, a long press on > used to produce a beep and it would go to to the next album. On my touch 2 it beeps but thats it. Have they done away with that function?

And another thing. Mine happily plays an album, but has to be told to play another or it just keeps repeating it Surely it should automatically play the next one without you having to poke about on the screen.

Thirdly, ( theres more) when I switch off and then then back on again the blessed thing just keeps repeating the last track I played.

Suspect its faulty or am I missing something.

Thanks. Nurse, tablets.

Hi Martin, afraid the news is not very good. I do wish Toyota would outsource to a decent company for its head units!

Long press on my > does nothing except repeatedly interrupt the stream but it does still try to keep playing so I guess the function that you describe doesn't work.

In terms of albums, it treats each one like a standalone CD I'm afraid and therefore no, it knows nothing about the next one available! Stupid I know... The only way around this that I know of its too use shuffle but having first selected a track from "songs" (not "albums"). In this case it will pick a random track every time across the whole USB music collection that ignores album boundaries...

Finally, as I have said before, that is the default behaviour in your third comment and it seems it cannot be changed. Been like that in every head unit I've ever had in a Toyota I've owned...

it works fine if you plug an iPod in. I'm guessing it doesn't like memory sticks lol also doesn't like my Sony MP3 player lol

Thanks Colin and Tom.

A bit pleased now as is not a faulty unit, in a relative sense. Or that my computers are incapable of producing a memory stick/ flash drive up to the high standards of Touch2. Heading towards E. Bay for an ipod.

However, there is a screen on Touch2 which is named Playlists. Perhaps that could be an answer to playing albums in some kind of order. I have no idea how to use it but it must be there for some reason,

Perhaps you drag and drop or go to a sub menu. Or even import a playlist. Then again, I could be completely wrong.

Will investigate.

Thanks again.

On the subject of using a usb. If I leave it plugged in when I leave the car, is it normal to have to take it out and re insert it before the HU recognises it again?

No problems with the random menu though!

Thanks.

Russ.

Not had that problem. Have you tried another USB ?

Neither have I... If I leave the USB plugged in, it always defers to that when I restart. It's actually a bit annoying because I would prefer that it didn't and instead come back on with what I was listening to last but it doesn't. For example, with the USB plugged and if I decided to listen to the radio and switched to it instead and then switched the car off with the radio still going, when I restart the USB will take over instead of the radio... Because of that, I tend to leave the USB drive unplugged most of the time because I tend to listen to the radio more than I do the USB (current affairs and news is more important to me than tunes...)

Mine reverts to the radio and ignores the usb, even though it is still plugged in. It won't show as a source until taken out and put back in again.

I've used the same usb in other cars without a problem.

As I've only had the car a couple of days I'm still learning all of it's quirks.

Perhaps a software update of your head unit is needed?

Could the way the stick is formatted have anything to do with this? There are up to 4 options - FAT, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS. It might be worth checking and experimenting with sticks formatted in different ways. More info here:- http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/format-usb-drive/

Just been involved in the same topic on the Auris forum. Seems there is a solution.
