Beeping Beeping Beeping

I own a Toyota Aygo 1.0 VVT-i Platinum MMT A/C (2009) which I puchased a few months ago

Its been a great little car but recently its developed a strange beeping sound with no warning lights on the dash and it is'nt the seatbelt warning beep which starts low and then gets faster . It seems to be a fast random beeping sound I can't see anything in the handbook that tells me what it is, it's very frustrating, there just doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, you can be driving having a conversation when suddenly it starts beeping again .

I have looked all over the internet to try and find a reason why this is hapening but no one as come up with an answer that I can find ?

Is there anyone with a Aygo had the same thing happen to them and taken it to a toyoa dealer to find out what it is .

It's strange that no one on the world wide web seems to have resolved this beeping

Thanks

And it is not related to your MMT gear playing up or your driver's door not being shut (or door sensor not detecting it)? If your over head light is on when it beeps, then it might be the door sensor.

It might be worth checking if it is the reversing sensor

Could be the clutch overheat warning, this is usually caused by lots of stop start driving, holding the car on an incline with the throttle , sitting stationary in gear holding on the brake or a clutch that is worn and slipping. Go to your Toyota dealer who can read the transmission ECU to see if the car has been sounding the alarm at you.

HI again

Thanks for all your input :ermm:

Over the weekend I went off for a run to Southport from Liverpool and not a beep ! :Jumpy: there or on the return journey, and no beep while going to work today . :jockey:

I have modified the way I am driving my last car was a 2 litre use to be very responsive off the mark i.e getting away at traffic lights or going up hill .

I think I have got to eccept that this is a smaller engine and be a little less aggresive on the accelerator if I take my time and let it go through the gears at its own pace everything seems fine its just a liitle embarrassing :blushing: when leaving the traffic lights while going up hill :censor:

Update ......Well the beeping has returned :ermm:

It's was really annoying beeping all the time .So I decided to take Devon Aygo's advice and take it to my local toyota dealer.

They said the problem was the clutch plates were worn and would have to be replaced :excl: and it would cost £695.00 :jawdrop:

It had to be done :crybaby: the beeping driving me insane ,a nice man came from toyota to pick the Aygo up at twelve o clock and returned it at five o clock wash and valeted , he said we have changed the plates and replaced a worn bearing and a little bit of good news was it was only £680.00 so it was straight to the off licence to spend my £15 change and drown my sorrows :pepsi:

No more beeping now and car is running fine :xmas:

... but if you're not a hobby mechanic ........

You buy the part for £143 and take it to a independent garage and get it changed for £100-£150 labour.

This had been a problem for a while now with all the worry and sleeples nights I m just glad it's sorted

I am not a hobby mechanic :dontgetit: ............. I did take it to a couple of independant garages before it went to Toyota but no one would touch it they all said take it to your dealer :bangin: .................So I took there advise and went to toyota more expensive I know , but when you you haven't got a clue mechanically :g:

Anyhow it's running fine now :driving: so in future I am gonna save my pennies up and take it to Toyota every time lesson learned :boxed:

Hi Everyone,

I have had a similar experience. The beeping noise. I took the car to a toyota dealer today and they said I need a new clutch. Quoted me 600 quid and said even if I took it somewhere cheaper only toyota could reprogramme it.

Has anyine experienced this?

Thank you

Does your Aygo have the Multi Mode Transmission?

Welcome to Toyota Owners Club, by the way.

Not all garages will do work on cars fitted with the Multi Mode Transmission. The Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 are basically the same car as the Aygo - they're built at the same plant and share mechanicals, etc.

One thing you could consider, if you have a local Citroen or Peugeot dealer, is to get a price from them for the new clutch, reprogramming, etc. Which then gives you two options, if they are cheaper than your Toyota dealer:

1). see if your Toyota dealer will match the cheaper price, or

2). have the clutch replaced by the Citroen or Peugeot dealer.

when we had our 1st aygo we had the clutch slip and took it to a well known auto specialist ,we where told they could work on

the peugeot & citroen but not the aygo as the diagnostic coudln't talk to the auto ecu and it would have to go to Toyota,

we did take it to toyota but bought a new car instead.

Thank you so much for your reply. And for your welcome.

I will certainly look into that.

If a garage is willing to do the work would you advise against it? I mean not a dealership, an ordinary garage?

The multi mode transmission (MMT) isn't a true automatic - it is a manual gearbox with an automated clutch.

As far as I'm aware with a clutch replacement on these, the actuator requires adjustment and the MMT electronic control unit (ecu) needs resetting/reprogramming. Without these two pieces of additional work the car may not have any drive - meaning it won't go.

So if you have an independent replace the clutch, the car may then need to be taken to a franchised dealer for the adjustment/reset/reprogramme.

This may well wipe out any monetary saving from having the clutch replaced by an independent garage.

as long as the garage has the correct tools for resetting the clutch then it wont be a problem ,but what you will

find is that a garage will be of the opinion clutch oh ye we can do that not realising the complications associated with the mmt.

this is why when I come to end of my pcp finance I've decided I'll get a Hyundai I10 with a conventional automatic transmission.

this is why when I come to end of my pcp finance I've decided I'll get a Hyundai I10 with a conventional automatic transmission.

Takes a hit as regards Vehicle Excise Duty though.

Emissions are 142 g/CO2/km -

1. current VED Band F at £145 per year

2. from 1st April 2017 £200 for the first year, and then £140 per year.

Although Hyundai have a reworked turbocharged version of the current 1.0 litre engine, which will go into the i20 next year to replace the 1.2 and probably the 1.4. They may be looking to replace the 1.2 in the i10 with this unit - don't know whether the auto version will retain a conventional torque convertor auto transmission though.

Something to consider then. Pricewise an X play Aygo is not that different and the level of kit you get with it compared to a high end Hyundai I10 is similar.

I think come the tax changes in 2017 the benefits of city cars will reduce and the sales figures will reduce.

The i10 looks a bigger and better car but the fuel economy would be a concern. The car seems a lot better than the Aygo though. Have you considered the VW Up. Was very impressed with that.

The VW Up/Skoda Citigo/Seat Mio don't have a torque convertor auto, and like the Aygo has a manual with automated clutch.

I quoted the current VED for the i10 (Band F @£145 per annum) and the revised VED from 1st April 2017 (£200 for the first year and then £140 per year).

Depending on when the PCP is due to expire, if one purchases and takes delivery of an i10 auto in March 2017, the VED rate will be £145 per annum, the car will be a '17 plate', and one will save slightly on the VED (£55 less in the first year, but £5 more in the second and subsequent years) than if the car was delivered from April 2017.

I may as well stay with an automated manual for the £20 tax. At least I'll be protected by a warranty.
