I'm the owner of a late 2008 Avensis 2.0D-4D saloon (old style). I average about 12k miles a year and I've been very happy with the car as it's never let me down once. The fuel consumption has been getting better and better recently and I'm currently getting 51-52 mpg which is best I've ever had from any car. It's a large comfortable car which is ideal for motorway cruising. I like the extra features such as the built-in sat nav and auto lights and wipers.

I didn't renew my service contract this year so it will be interesting to see how expensive it gets. As it's 6 years old now I'm going to attempt minor repairs myself if they're within my abilities. I've already replace the driver's side wing mirror following a clash of mirrors in a local narrow country lane after dark. I got a cheapo replacement from eBay but it does the job just fine.

I hope to pick up some useful tips here and to pass on my own experiences and learnings.
