Bmw Tie In

HI,

Sometime ago BMW and Toyota decided to share certain technology between each other. I read that Battery technology went to BMW and in return diesel technology came across to toyota.

I have only learnt of the verso receiving an engine with BMW diesel technology input. However the press reports I have come across seemed to be unimpressed with the benefits this particular engine/vehicle combination.

Has any reader heard of any upcoming diesel benefits to the toyota range.

The reason I ask is that I purchased a new Rav4 invincible 2.2 diesel. Having owned from new every Rav model but all petrol models.

I owned the vehicle just over a year and was not particulary impressed with it's engine. I expected more.

So anybody out there with news or has this colaberation just been a flop.

Thanks.

Steve.

The collaboration was announced in 2012 and covered work such as a sharing of Battery technology, fuel cell technology, and diesel engines.

Bear in mind that Europe is by and large the main market for diesel engined cars. The Verso was the first to use the BMW 1.6 diesel engine. As there will be no Hybrid Avensis, the facelifted Avensis due in 2015 will reportedly use the 1.6 and 2.0 BMW diesel engines. As to whether the Auris is given one of the BMW diesel engines may be open to question, due to the Hybrid versions of the Auris hatchback and Touring Sports.

Toyota and BMW have reportedly also signed a further collaborative agreement to share the development of a sports car - rumoured to be the replacement Toyota Supra and the replacement BMW Z4
