Pretty much Toyotas reply. It will be interesting to see how many people have the fault. If it's a significant number it would certainly help to have doors repaired out of warranty.

My car is outside the warranty, but I have a plan to fabricate re-enforcing plates, then bolt and possibly have them welded to the effected area. These plates will spread the load from the inside and stop the metal from flexing. All I need is suitable metal for job. 

My friend who repairs cars says that lots of other make and models have had this same problem, and he has repaired them.

The other way I can fix the problem, is to sources later doors. My car is silver '1F7', which is quite popular colour for the Avensis.
