Catching Door Mirrors

I've only had my Yaris a month and I've caught the door mirrors several times already, on both posts and other cars, fortunately without damage - so far.

Is it me, or do they stick out a long way? You can't see the repeater indicator lense from the driver's seat and that's the bit bit that sticks out the furthest.

Perhaps there's a market for a wire cage or something similar to protect them.

Don't think the indicator repeater on the door mirror is supposed to be in the driver's view - as the flashing from the bulb could affect their vision at night.

I would imagine the reason for the lens protruding is so the indicator repeater is visible by others from various angles outside the vehicle - having some sort of cover for the lens may impede this visibility.

Now you realised how wide your car is you will be able to make allowance for the overall width in your judgement.

The Yaris isnt the widest of cars to start with so it should not be a problem.

It's not as wide as my previous car (Nissan Almera), but I never had this problem with that!

Although it is only 11mm narrower.

If you are aware that the repeater indicator lights increase the width of the car then the driver should make allowance for that fact

Additional protection cages would just make the yaris even wider and would not really serve any purpose in protecting against damage

I bought a new Jazz rather than a Yaris for this reason (among others): the Jazz has electrically folding wing mirrors)

So does the Yaris? AFAIK even the lesser spec models have a manual switch don't they? (The ones on our Excel are automatic...)

Electric ones. I meant.

I don't have a chauffeur to move mine manually..:-)

They are electric across the whole Yaris range aren't they? (with the smart pack adding the automated functionality to the excel...)

On current Yaris pre 2014 Facelift all models where electric adjust and heated none had electric folding, on post 2014 all models are electric adjust and heated with Excel getting press button electric fold and smart pack adding ignition triggered auto fold

I was looking for the 'heated mirror' switch just yesterday, can't see it on a 2014 (pre FL) Icon+? Electric adjust, but no heat or fold.

The mirror heater comes on when you turn the heated rear screen on. There is no separate switch.
