Gen 3 2010 Satnav

Many apologies if this has been posted before but I cant seem to find anything under Search.

I do alot of driving and sometimes when I see a collision/traffic jam I would manually enter an AVOID zone so the satnav would recalculate a new route around the avoid zone I have entered.

The problem is after many attempts I cannot seem to remove these AVOID zones I have entered. My SatNav is now always avoiding certain roads as the avoid zones has not been removed and really inconvenient.

Does anyone know how to remove a manually entered avoid zone?

I'm not 100% on this, because I never used the avoid feature on the one I had, I just turned off the route and it would automatically recalculate after a few attempts to get you to do a U-turn.

You could try turning them off when on that destination, before you get to the avoid area (assuming it is a saved destination that you use often), alternatively try entering the destination again as a new one.

It is buried somewhere at the end of the Nav manual. I think I found it about a year after a particularly nasty set of roadworks ended.

1. Push the “SETUP” button.

2. Touch “Navi.” on the “Setup” screen.

3. Touch “Areas to Avoid” on the “Navigation Settings” screen.

4. Touch “Delete”.

5. Touch the "avoid" to be deleted.

“Select All”: To select all registered areas to avoid in the system.

“Unselect All”: To unselect all registered areas to avoid in the system.

6. Touch “Delete”.

7. To delete the area, touch “Yes”. To cancel the deletion, touch “No”.

In a rage of fit I factory reset my UNIT and everything is gone including the avoid zones.

Once you enter an avoid zone, its there forever and cannot be removed. This is until someone figures it out

Ive had a look as per your instructions and cant see "areas to avoid"

Under my setup > navigation settings:

The list of options I have are:

Average speed

"<<Off" function

Select POI icons

3D landmark

Traffic Notification

Pop-up message

Calibration

Maybe its a different sat nac you have to mine?

No. And I did quite a lot of hunting.

I at least managed a update to mine as a one-off sop from Customer Services, because they refused point blank to do anything about the weasel warranty.

If you have the original satnav data as supplied with the original Gen IIIs, then you really do need an update. The original mapping data was really out of date. However, the cost is insane. I think Toyota learned their lesson over this, but as with the (now expired) weasel warranty, they don't give a stuff about existing customers, so I think you are stuck with it.

I had a similar problem with Renault and a 2002 Laguna, which was advertised as having Traffic Info. Renault in the UK tried to maintain this wasn't available, but faced with evidence of a third party traffic-enabled disc they sorted out a subsequent problem, including paying for the third party disc.

Toyota unfortunately introduced the hard drive system without a clue as to how they were going to update it. When they did, the update process was so time consuming, involving sending a Toyota area manager to the dealer to do the update, that they set these silly prices. When the dealers took over the update process, they didn't reduce the price to reflect the change in cost.

All in all, the best approach is probably to use Google maps on your phone for the odd occasions that the road system at your destination has changed. It is a whole lot better than paying for Toyota's incompetence and greed.

I you have only recently bought the car from a dealer, then you might just be able to convince them to provide an update because the mapping data is so badly out of date. And you couldn't reasonably be expected to know this when you bought the car. After all, you would expect the car to have been properly maintained.
