Okay guys .. I'll be removing my de-limiter at some point over the weekend (if it's not raining) ..

I've got a eletric speedo unit (rev2+) so the de-limiter will be on the G'box .. but what do they look like then?

isnt the limit controlled by the ECU?

u'll need to fit a de-limiting device inthat case, or get a chip to sort it out, e.g. unichip.

But don't u have the APEXi? that should sort it out shouldnt it, unless it doesnt mess with funcitons such as those.

you want to remove the de-limiter so your cars limited again, been caught speeding?

Okay .. the de-limiter just converts the ECU's speed up .. so the car thinks it's doing KMPH .. but really it's doing MPH ..

And then you stick a MPH sticker on your KMPH speedo and you have a 180 MPH speedo

So I've now got a UK speedo to read the right speed, and an Apexi RSM .. so I wanna remove the current de-limiter and use the RSM ..

This will allow the RSM to read KMPH and then calculate correctly (the 0-100kmph is being measured as a 0-100mph  ).

I'm assuming I'm looking for a matchbox sized thing on the wires from the G'box to the ECU .. there is nothing attached on the boot side of the loom (well FCD, WI etc .. but no de-limiter).

If your car has the electronic speedo, the de-limiter is more likely to be behind the dash attached to the wiring loom just before it goes into the instrument plug/sockets. It could be as small as 15mm x 15mm x 3mm thick, I've seen one that size fitted to a beams.

But my car will do 160 mph and the ECU's been fooled ..

If it's behind the dash, only the cluster would be fooled surely ?

Found to and removed .. It was tapped into the plug off the G'box ..

4 wires (2 power other two tapped into the speed wire) .. all going into a tiny bit of black plastic the size of a tumbnail ..

Cut the two speed wires and re-connected the speed one and I'm now back to 112mph limit ..

Just got to tap the RSM in now ..

(on a side note .. my car cold, with wheelspin and full of tools pulled a sub 6 sec 0-60 with loads of wheel spin)

Oddly enough, Toyota decided to send the speed signal from the gearbox to the speedo, change the pulses in the speedo from 12V to 5V and send it all the way back to the ecu. Of course the signal goes to the other ECUs for the power steering/auto box/cruise control (if fitted) on the way.

On the rev 1 car with the cable speedo the pulses are generated in the speedo itself, so I guess maybe Toyota decided not to change the cable routing when they fitted the electronic speedo.
