Toyota Yaris Dashboard Issues

Hi,

Just driven back to London - no difficulties at all. Came back to the car, to find the dashboard display on my 2011 Yaris 5 Door still on dispite the ignition being off and doors locked and no headlights on etc. Car started no issue - but the dashboard fails to go off when the key is removed.

After a couple of attempts, the dashboard is now flashing on and off...rang dealership and they were unsure of the problem as it 'has never happened before'.

As I am in London for a couple of days, and I don't need to use the car, I've disconnected the Battery and rediscovered the joy of having to individually lock all the doors and boot.

Any suggestions on why it would be doing this?

Car has not made any noises and has been perfectly fine.

Cheers

Meic

Is it just the information display (LCD) which is showing? If so it will be using very little current and unlikely to drain the Battery.

Thanks both.

It's just the speedo console - so the central bit with the speedo, rev counter etc - that stays on. The middle panel (where the air con and temp control and the sat nav/radio control) doesn't stay on.

After about 10 minutes, the speedo console started flashing on and off. The dealership wanted to ensure I didn't have smart start (which I don't on this model - had it on my previous one and it drove me insane) but it is a normal remote locking and key ignition.

If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful.

Sorry I didn't realise it was the Mk2 and not Mk3 Yaris when I posted.

It sounds to me like something in the electronics may have got confused. Probably worth disconnecting the Battery for 10 minutes and see if that fixes it. A bit like Ctrl-Alt-Del works with computers!

I always remember a Ford Escort that I bought from a Motor Trader's wife that had a non functioning alarm. He claimed that it had been replaced 3 times under warranty but was just useless and that I should forget it and buy a steering lock. I just disconnected and reconnected the Battery and the alarm then worked fine for the next 4 years we owned the car!

Hi,

My 2011 Yaris has just started doing the same thing with the dashboard.  Could you advise what the issue was?

Thanks

If it has a conventional key, check the ignition switch is actually switching off, and not intermittently going into accessory mode causing the dash to power up again.

Hello Meic and Kat,

I just had this issue start tonight. I was wondering if you discovered what the issue is and how you solved it? Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Many thanks,

Jordan

I've had this issue start on my car today. Anyone offer any help? It's flashing at a very regular interval. I'm unplugging the ECU every time I stop now so that the Battery doesn't drain

Hello,

I posted above about the issue when it first happened to me. In my case, my Battery died once, we jumped it back and everything was just fine from then on. It was frustrating, but the local garage couldn’t see any issue, so whilst I waited for a reply on here, I left it and it turned out fine. I wouldn’t want to guarantee the same for you though. Mine is 2011, so would have been 5 years old at the time. I’m not sure if it’s an age thing or possibly related to cold weather?

Hope it turns out fine soon!

Like yours ours is a 2011, don't think models matter but ours is the T spirit with sat nav, on reading it seems its not to be an isolated incident and I'm trying to find out what is a, ECO run converter is, where it is and what it looks like, if its a DIY fix.

For anyone else with this same problem, took car to a local garage to confirm what I had read and where the part was located, had him stumped so he call a toyota technician for help who confirmed it was the ECO run converter assembly located just in front of the Battery, which by the way catches all the crap thrown up from under the car. Unplugged the assembly and the dash lights go out. The part is not cheap at £112 but its plug and play so don't need a mechanic to fit, I'm just trying to find out if my warranty will stretch to it as we've only had this yaris 10wks, well as expected while typing this, warranty people rang and this part isn't covered and its a main stealer part only. Thanks to Heidfirst who replied to a earlier thread, what pointed me in the right direction, best ring toyota now.lol

If you bought from a trader then under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 the car should be covered for 6 months with the onus on the trader to prove that the fault wasn't incipient when purchased e.g. https://www.whatcar.com/news/your-legal-rights/

Wasn't a main dealer we bought it from, just one of the smaller sales pitches what crop up, the 3mth warranty it came with(mostly mechanical) but they can't list every nut and bolt, I don't blame the garage they were very good and we think we got a good deal. I'm £100 worse off, its one of those things, but got some discount from the stealers, but on a up note, fitted the part(3 mins) car runs like a dream(slightly quicker tick over) but it is an updated replacement part and all the dash lights go out now,RESULT.

For those who need to know old part no G92C0 52030 replaced with G92C0 52031 there was one one eBay for £100 second hand he's having a laugh.

It doesn't matter whether it was a small trader or a massive dealer in a palace - legally you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which the trader is obliged to follow.

Doesn't matter whether the trader you bought the car from is a main dealer or a one man outfit, they are still bound by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. See https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

My Auris was doing this strange flickering dashboard on power off thing. After a week of flickering, the occasional ENGINE CHECK warning and having to disconnect the Battery each night, I decided I had to do something. I decided to replace the ECO RUN CONVERTER ASSY as described above, so called my local dealer to get a price. On the phone I mentioned the problem and they helpfully went and found a technician for me to chat to. He had seen the problem once before and said that the ECO RUN CONVERTER fixed it for him. So I took the plunge it cost £110 and took a couple of minutes to fit (its on the left of the Battery and easy to get to the two bolts and one connector). And it worked a treat everything is back as it should be. Interestingly the new part is an upgrade with a +1 on the part number. The tech also told me that the part is responsible for keeping the power on to various parts of the car when the Engine Start Stop kicks in. It is not the part that actually stops the engine. Some diagrams here...
