2015 Prius + - Uk Specs And Prices

£27k to £31k? Phew that's a LOT.

I like my hybrids, hence being on this forum, but they're getting silly money now. You can buy a Peugeot that does all the same as the Prius+ without the hybrid for about £17k. The remaining £10k buys a lot of fuel and the Peugeots aren't that bad on the stuff either.

Maybe Toyota don't want to sell more than 1k a year. I get the impression they're happy not to. The Prius+ is just a box tick to help comply with the fleet overall fuel consumption tables.

The steering wheel is on the wrong side, be ok in mainland Europe though.

remember that we have discussed about the cost/profitability of Japanese produced cars vs local European production? Now we have the Auris/Auris SW hybrids that largely overlap the Prius ..

.....why, why, why do manufacturers go to great lengths to squeeze fuel consumption by fitting numerous gizmos / removing fixtures and then add 17" wheels that reduces much of their efforts, by 7% in the case here?

Not only do you lose the 7%, you also gain a rough ride and, given the state of the roads in the UK, the high chance that you'll be paying out for a replacement wheel sometime soon!

Madness.

I would imagine that the majority of owners who buy a new car accept a car's spec for what it is - and do nothing as regards the wheels and tyre combination even if they find the ride to be uncomfortable.

It looks good, but for my money the interior needs less plastic to look like a £30k car.

It's a nice car. It just isn't a £30k car as others have said. £25k - £30k is a very competitive segment. Hard plastics (rattles aside) won't compete against premium models in that bracket. Let alone some other short comings.

But this is the Prius PLUS model, and possibly not the first choice of current T3-T Spirit owners

its is the Gen 4 Prius that would be of most interest.......with a large touch of Germanic quality in the construction

Apart from the shiny black radio surround and the centre vents changed from 3 to 2, the interior is pretty much the same as before.

Exterior does look a little sharper, but they've took the bling off the front grill, mine has a chrome strip, similar to the old Gen 2 and the panoramic roof has gone.

I don't like how they've bundled the features, I like leather, touch 2 go (nav) and intelligent park assist (just for the camera guidelines). Don't need Pre-crash, adaptive cruise or the DVDs, all things that encourage inattentive driving, save them for the driverless car. It's definitely not tempting me to buy another when I come to change, I may have to go back to the hatch, lets see what the Gen 4 has to offer and if it's quieter than the Gen 3. Roll out the Hydrogen refuelling infrastructure and we may see some cheaper versions of H2 cars.

Well it looks like a case of waiting for a year or two for the price to drop before buying one. £30k for a plasticky car is not right. Even the little VW polo is better screwed than that.

I drove it the other day and I must say I was kind of disappointed. I had my heart set on buying one for my family (20k now is about the right price) but it felt really sluggish probably due to its weight. Another thing I don't understand is why make the centre armrest bit so big but the storage space in it is so limited?

Yes, but they don't have any choice. I would dearly love to have had a 15 inch option on my Gen III Prius, or the current Auris hybrid. However, to get a decent spec I have to have these wheels. It doesn't mean I'm not going to complain about the stupidity of fitting wheels that drop fuel consumption and make for a harder ride on a car which is sold on its fuel consumption, and really isn't bought for its sporty characteristics (is it?).

At least make the 17 inch wheels a no cost option.

It used to really annoy me that every last Gen III Prius demonstrator had a label on the outside proclaiming fuel consumption and CO2 figures that just did not apply to that car, as they were all T-Spirits that could never meet those figures.

My comment still stands - most people wouldn't change the wheels.

Even if the specs were adjusted to make 15 inch wheels standard across the range, the then option of 17 inch wheels certainly wouldn't be at no cost.

on the Prius + that's where the High Voltage Battery lives! (and it's a Lithium-ion one, not nickel metal hydride like the regular Prius).

Makes you wonder... wheels are just about the easiest thing in the world to make optional, so why on earth don't they?

The minor revisions at the 2012 face lift were the only reason I bought my Gen 3 - the T3 acquired the central multifunction display with reversing camera, along with Daytime Running Lights, and I was able to have the cruise control switch fitted so I got everything I desperately wanted.

Had I been able to buy a T-Spirit with 15" wheels (even as a no cost/no reduction option) I'd have bought a new one (along with the the precrash system to get the radar cruise control) instead of my ex demo T3, but I certainly got a bargain that gives me a lot of what i really want.

"Makes you wonder... wheels are just about the easiest thing in the world to make optional, so why on earth don't they?"

Well ..... Toyota GB don't. One reason, they say, is that the 15 inch wheels haven't been homologated for specific grades. To be honest, the issue over 15 inch wheels and 17 inch wheels, certainly on the Auris, has already been done to death in previous topics.

'Homologated'! Some might say there's too much homologation about, and it starts with 'kids' in marketing departments and is compounded by 'compliant sheep' in the market place..............either way, Toyota lost a £23k sale with me, all down to the silly rubber band wheels on the Excel. VW got the money instead.....though we are more than happy with the Icon+ Yaris and its proper 15" wheels/tyres.

Exactly that. A load of over paid 20 somethings in the marketing department all thinking people want cool wheels. Same idiots as the bean counters that have decided people don't want spare wheels - or more likely they can save £40 per car times by 50,000 cars equals more profit.

Hurt them where it hurts. Don't buy their car and tell them why. Eventually it'll work its way to HQ.

It's just like Renault insisting on renting batteries on their electric cars. Sales are in the low hundreds compared to Nissan. Nissan offered the option to leave the Battery and buy out right. There was a 20% take up on lease. It appears Renault have missed out on a further 80% of sales because of their stubbornness.

Toyota have gone strange of late. We are a two Toyota household, but unless things change in the next 18 months, we'll be looking elsewhere, 5 yr warranty or not.
