Avensis Verso Central Locking

Hi

I'm a newbie here and this is my first post.

I have a TOYOTA AVENSIS VERSO GS VVTI 1998cc, 5 door, 2001 - 2003, Petrol, Automatic.

My central locking does not work when I insert and turn the key in the driver's side door. By turning the key in the door, it simply unlocks and locks the driver's door and leaves the other doors and the boot untouched.

The central locking works from the key fob and also by using the switch on the inside of the car.

I was wondering if the central locking is meant to work by turning the key in the driver's side door, or in fact that functionality is not there.

Toyota UK tell me it should work, but my dealer says there is no fault and so nothing to repair as central locking is not meant to operate using the door lock.

Can anyone help clarify.

Thanks!

Your car sounds fine to me. It is a backup when the remote is not working.

Just done the test on my pre-vvti car. The central locking opens the doors, but when trying to lock the doors only the drivers door locks. Even worse, the alarm is not deactivated/activated, so it will go off when any doors are opened.

The car from 2001 (vvti) have dead locks.

Worry about it when the remote fails and make sure you have the spare key handy. I alternate between my keys.

Thanks Konrad.

The reason that this is an issue now is that my car was involved in a collision (not my fault) and the repair garage screwed up the central locking system and returned it to me without any central locking function either from the key fob or the inside switch. I sent the car back for this to be repaired.

They returned it again saying it was repaired as the key fob now works. However the car does not centrally unlock using the key in the drivers side door. They say it is not designed to centrally unlock the car, but I'm sure it did, although of course I usually relied on the key fob to unlock.

It remains a point of disagreement as they say it is repaired but I say it isn't as the central locking does not work from the drivers side lock.

I just wondered if some one had a definitive few to I can resolve the dispute.

I have had Toyota cars since 1975 and bought my first Avensis in 1998 and have had five more since that one.

Every Toyota I have had with remote alarm system has also locked/unlocked all the doors when using the key in the drivers door, I regularly travel to Europe using a variety of ferries and need to lock the car with the key.

I think your repair garage are wrong, if you have a local dealer with a car the same as yours why not go and ask if you can try it?.

Jon, with the extra facts you provided, I would have to agree with Revband to get a second opinion.

It seems that the garage doing the repair did not pay attention to the wiring. To me it should be straight forward as the wiring can be plugged/unplugged, unless the cables were damaged.

Jon, you had something not working due to this wiring fault, but it could have been worse causing a short or even a electrical fire. The garage is responsible.

Let's hope the problem is solved.

Konrad

Thanks for your input. It has been sent to another local dealership to do some diagnostics to see if a fault exists!

Lets up this brings closure.
