Tyre Inflation Pressure

Hi Guys,

I have recently purchased a 1.8 Petrol Automatic , 2011 Avensis.

I do apologize if this information is easily available and I have managed to miss it.

The front wheels on my car are 215/55ZR17 98W and rear wheels are 215/55R17 94W

I have gone through the PDF user Manual for the recommended tyre pressure and there are 3 discrete tables for 215/55R17 94W with Types A , B and C respectively. And I dont know which Type is relevant for me.

The recommended pressures are quite different for these 3 types and I wanted to seek your guidance on how to identify the relevant inflation pressure.

Many thanks for your time in advance.

Best Regards

Sam

what does it say on the label in the driver's door jamb (on the B pillar)?

Your car has obviously had at least it's front tyres replaced as it doesn't need Z speed or 98 W load factor tyres (heck, even the 2.2 Tourer on 18"s needs only 95W).

Many Thanks for your response Scott. So I couldnt locate anything on the Drivers Door Jamb.

Upon reading the PDF Tables once more I do see that the Normal Pressure is same for all 3 types (A,B and C) and this is 240 for front and 230 for rear for tire size 215/55R17 94W. Its the Eco pressure that differs significantly depending on whether the type is B or C.

So I reckon I should at least maintain the Normal Pressure until such point I can identify the 'Type' - any other suggestions on how I can indetify the Type apart from the Door Jamb, and finally the question whether the Speed rating Z and load index of 98 requires a different pressure or could I simply follow the recommendations for 215/55R17 94W

very odd that there isn't a sticker on the B pillar. :ermm:

The speed rating shouldn't affect tyre pressure nor should the load rating (the tyre walls will be a bit stiffer so ride will be a bit harsher).

Sam you wrote"Upon reading the PDF Tables once more I do see that the Normal Pressure is same for all 3 types (A,B and C) and this is 240 for front and 230 for rear for tire size 215/55R17 94W. Its the Eco pressure that differs significantly depending on whether the type is B or C."

I'm thinking that the above quotes for the pressures are not PSI as that would be awfully huge pressures for your tyres unless your driving a tractor that is, :laughing:when i was in the trade the general consensus was that if there was a doubt about what psi to use then we used to play safe and stick double the amount of the wheel diameter + 2psi,so in your case it would be 36psi all round ..hope this helps you.

Ps this was irrespective of the tyre speed rating.

Thanks again Scott!! Much appreciated.

Many Thanks for your response Michael. Yeah you are right 240 and 230 are in KiloPascals I think, PSI works out as 35 and 34 respectively which is pretty spot on in relation to the rule of thumb you mentioned above (2xDiameter +2)

Thanks again for your time!!
