Engine Warning Light?

The engine yellow/orange warning light in the dashboard on my 2005 1.3 2sz-fe went on today :-(

The car felt normal so I continued driving home. I tried to fasten the gas cap and I also disconnected the negative terminal on the Battery to see if the warning light did a reset. It didn't :-(...I noticed that the radiator fan started when I turned the ignition to on (without starting), so i let the engine cool off and gave it another try.The same thing happened, the radiator fan began spinning. It turned off and on with an interval go about a minute, even though the engine was cold. I have a had a minor leak around the water pump for some time, but has not been a problem and I always kept the coolant reservoir full...

Any ideas?

Oh God, i had same problem but on a Golf 2 times in 1 year!!! You will need to get your car scanned to diagnose problem. I had same problem with fan comming on with ignition on, it would also go off after swtiching the car off and drain Battery so it it checked asap. The problem will 90% to be tempreture sensor (something simular named) which is considerably cheap, £10-30 so dont worry about it. It wont be anything major and wont cost you more than £50 all in if you do it correctly. First thing is to get the car scanned, independent garages charge £40 for a scan and main dealer £60+ which is a rip off. You can buy your own scanner for less that half the price and get it done your self :P. Here's a link, it will problaly come in handly alot in the near future and will save alot of money. I have added a link to a scanner below which I currently use on my Yaris, works well and tells alot of info about the car. When you read the codes using this cheap machine, you will get a code such as P910 or something simular. You write this code on the internet and it will tell your problem and you can get the part which wont be expensive. When you order the parts from a cheap website such as Euro car parts (very cheap car parts) go to your local mechanic, not Toyota unless you want to pay £100!! Your mechanic shouldent charge more than £10 and if he is good it should be free (like myne did) as fitting it takes literally 2 minuites or less. This isent something complicated, you just need that scanner which will do you well in the future and also dont worry about it, it wont harm your car even if you dont fix it!
