2007 Auris Auto With Paddle Shifter Problems

Hi all, my auris yesterday was driving fine, then lost drive and the "N" on the dash began to flash. I switched the engine off and on again and no difference, it would not select any gears. Any help would be appreciated as the 3 month warranty has just run out 2 weeks ago. This is the second or third time that this has happened, but I thought this might be due to driver error. Thanks in advance

Couple of topics on a similar problem:

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/159399-stuck-in-neutral/

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/143565-multi-mode-probs/

The multimode transmission isn't a true automatic - it is a manual gearbox with an automated clutch. Various manufacturers including Fiat, Vauxhall and Mazda, have used similar set ups, and all can be expensive to repair if they go wrong.

Some of the topics mention a recall - I don't think an official recall was done on the MMT and certainly there doesn't seem to be one listed for the Auris on what was the VOSA website. There may have been a Toyota service bulletin covering the issue.

You mention this is the second or third time this has happened - were either of these occurrences within the warranty period, and, if they were, did you take it back to the garage for repair. If this is the case I would be inclined to return to the garage as I suspect it is the same fault, which hasn't actually been properly sorted.

Both of times when this happened it was the wife that was driving so i assumed that It was due to driver error. since she can only drive auto. so the answer is no the car never went for repair had diagnostics done on it twice with snap on scanner and no fault codes found. hence the driver error theory

Have a look at the following topic, especially post 2 which has some tips on driving an Aygo MMT (which I would imagine apply also to driving the Auris MMT) - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/108601-driving-technique-mmt/

I used to have an Auris MMT and I was no fan of the system as I have posted on here previously. I always parked it in gear overnight and one of the problems I had, especially in winter time, was that in the morning I couldn't get it into Neutral to let me start it. I found that if I opened the drivers door and rocked the car that would sometimes free it.

At other times I could get it into Neutral but the starter wouldn't work and again I found if I opened the door and pushed it backwards or forwards a couple of feet it would start OK.

I know that's not the trouble you're having but it might be worth trying. Failing that it might be worth trying the sequence of operations listed in the attached Technical Bulletin. It's really meant to be used when replacing the clutch but you never know, it might just coax your system into life.
