Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying Yaris 1.0 or 1.33. I was wondering if you could give me rough number - how much a year you spend for repairs and replacement of parts? if you gave me the age of your car, I would get some picture... Thanks

Servicing should be every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Intermediate services due at 1 year/10,000, 3 year/30,000, 5 year/50,000 and similar intervals thereafter. Full services at 2 years/20,000 miles, 4 years/40,000 miles, etc. Brake fluid change every two years. Coolant change at 10 years/100,000 miles and then every 5 years/50,000 miles thereafter - using Toyota Super Long Life Coolant. Spark plugs at 60,000 miles.

For an idea of servicing costs at Toyota dealers - see the Fixed Price Servicing scheme http://www.toyota.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/car-servicing

Toyota's Fixed Price repair scheme provides an idea of certain common repair costs - http://www.toyota.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/repairs-and-parts

Toyota Roadside Assistance (breakdown cover) is quite good value from £66 per year - https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners-info/roadside-assistance

Based on younger son's experience of running a clapped out earlier Yaris 1.0 over 4 years and 40k miles and our diesel Yaris over 9 years , I would budget as follows:

Based on a competent independent garage and buying tyres etc at specialists:

Tyres: every 20-25k miles.. about £260-£300.

Brakes very 3-4 years - £120-£150.

Annual servicing c £200.

Wiper Blades every three years c £25.. (incl rear).

Odds and sods - washer fluid etc.. £25 pa,

A lot depends on your mileage and how you drive.

Drive like a maniac and never check tyre pressures and it will be more...

And if you buy one with a rusty exhaust,, budget £300 for a complete system (not original Toyota).

Odd set of anti roll bushes £50-£100 every 4-5 years.

Hope that helps.

(Will vary with quality and supplier of parts)
