have 190,000 on clock. Still drives feels near new. Terrific estate. Mot s nil advisories etc.

But recently clutch pedal gradually got "harder" to depress. Yesterday, after standing say 10 days, freezing overnight, drove 100 yds down road and clutch pedal stayed down on the floor. Can pull pedal back. But it continues to stay on floor when depressed. Is it hydraulics or clutch assembly problem? Which? please. Thanks guys.

Hi - I've not had this problem with my Avensis but I did have the problem you describe (clutch stays down but you can pull it back up) with a previous Renault Espace. In my case it was the hydraulics that needed to be replaced.

I would go for the hydraulics first, as these are cheaper and there is less labour involved than a clutch kit.

Slave cylinder (around £60 from T (£20-£40 aftermarket) being the cheapest followed by the master (£100-£120 from Mr T) changing these may make your clutch lighter if does not it will the pressure plate.

hi both, your replies much appreciated. I'll concentrate on hydraulics as you advise.Any particular aftermarket product you prefer? Many thanks. I'll report results.

genuine is best but not the cheapest eurocarparts have a slave for around £22.00(pagid) or try ADL blueprint do the slave I am unsure if the master clyinder can sourced as a aftermarket part.
