They make one hell of a racket if you don't drive the car for a couple of days after damp weather.

Never had this on a car before.

Great car though!

Surface rust on discs and dampness causing same in drums - assuming discs front, drums rear.

Soon rubs off whilst driving.

If you going to park the car up for a couple weeks in winter i would be thinking of leaving hand brake off and park in gear. Brakes can easily partially seize causing problems when you come back to it.

Years ago, my mum and dad went to USA for a month. His Vauxhall Viva was just left parked up. Few days before they come back I went to start the car and take it for a run and the clutch wouldnt disengage. Had to tow to a garage and they took gearbox out to free the clutch.

Thats true brakes seize up. Believe it or not, my Yaris which was parked for 2 weeks and breaks seized!!! couldent believe it but it was easy to release, put down handbrake and keep rocking the car :P

Thank you for your replies but I have never had a cars brakes sound as rough after a couple of days. Even the good lady commented.

Thinking about it maybe the sound insulation has something to do with it, it does calm down after a drive but it's very damp around here at the moment which may have something to do with it.

I am used to Hondas but switched to toyota perhaps that may be how they are?

You will have discs on the front. Just look at them, when left in damp conditions for couple days, and you will see light surface rust. When you drive off the braking will rub this off quickly, thats why they go quieter after a while.

Done it on my previous cars, Vauxhall Vectra, BMW 320D, my van I used to have, and many/all cars before that.

On my Mark1 Yaris, the rear brakes seized to the drums if you washed the car and did not use it for 2-3 days. Rust.

Best thing was to park in gear with handbrake off.

They release with a loud bang.

Edit My rear disk braked Jazz is the same.

Happened to most cars I have driven.
