Hi all,

I was just wondering has anyone any idea why the lexus ct hybrid is now cheaper used than a used prius of the same year? The price of used prius's seems to be going up 11/12 plates are circa 14-15k while the lexus is around 11/12k

Demand? Profile? The Lexus was criticised for ride quality, performance and lack of driving pleasure - perhaps it has a lower profile amongst used buyers and is not in such demand as the Prius.

When I considered upgrading to a Lexus NX, one of the things that put me off was the 3 year warranty. So a 2½ year old Lexus only has 6 months left, while a similar age Prius is only half way through it's warranty. That will almost certainly affect the desirability of the Lexus Vs the Prius.

A couple of traders also told me that although Lexus are generally reliable, if they do need parts they are even more extortionate than some Toyota parts.

So for these and other reasons I decided to leave well alone.

The Lexus CT is not as economical as the Prius and IMO although the CT may have a better quality feel about it, the Prius has a more hi-tech look and TBH Prius buyers know what they want whereas the CT is trying to be a posh Prius but failing to impress the normal Lexus buyer as it doesn't have the performance and handling associated with the lexus brand.

It's a posh Prius that's selling more.

But regardless, the latest figures for alternative fueled cars (which includes hybrids) indicates that over 50k were sold in 2014. That's good news for local air quality.

I am also considering ct200 lexus and the reason why I am put off is that there is only 3 year warranty whereas my Toyota still has 2 years left. If I was to purchase a ct200 I would buy 2011 or 2012 and they both would be out of warranty or soon to be. Parts of lexus would kill me :( but seeing as it has better reliability than my current Auris (which feels bullet proof) I'd take the jump, its number 4 in the UK!! However the Ct200 will hold its value much better than a Toyota on the long run.

And, and this matters to some, it has a Lexus Badge on the front. "What car have you got?", a Toyota "Oh". or "What car have you got?", a Lexus "oooh".

The ct200h is only a few hundred pounds more than the Auris HSD and costs less than the Prius. You get less warranty, but I'm sure that could be extended. Pro's and con's, but it's definitely an interesting proposition.

I was cold called (or cold emailed) by my supplying dealer, asking if I would like a Price from my April 2013 T spirit with just 10k on the clock...

they offered a surprising £18.5 K

no new Gen 4 Prius to contemplate though.......although, I too am attracted to the CT, except that is, for the shape, the ride, and the warranty
