Battery Replaced, Engine Dead

Hi,

I had to replaced the Battery as it was loosing its charge, everything went fine. Turned on the ignition all the lights came on radio etc. When l tried to start it all I got was a click. The jeep was working fine before and started first time every time.

I'm guessing its the immobiliser or something. The only thing I found odd when changing the Battery was when l disconnected the Battery terminals l heard a few bleeps from the computer, well at least i think it was the computer.

Hope someone can help

Michael

My first thought would be dirty or loose connections. When you try to start do the dash lights go out or dim.?

Does it only click once or a succession of clicks?

Hi, The lights didn't dim and it is a single click only.

Hi Michael

The click you heard would be the solenoid piston moving, that means that is working OK. However this should close a heavy duty switch to pass the heavy load that the starter motor it'self needs. Are the two larger nuts tight on this?

The HD contacts in this switch can wear or get too dirty to allow the current to pass through. There is a repair kit available to rectify this if that is the case

This would entail removing the starter motor and if working on it worries you I suggest taking it to an auto electrician who could bench test it

Hope this helps or ask again
