Avensis Sensors?

My T22 03 Avensis MPG readout has always been pretty spot on compared to fuel actually used and miles covers and on a 500 mile round trip I regularly do the mpg display normally shows 42 mpg which is within one mpg or so of the actual figure. However recently on this trip it displayed 32 mpg as the 500 mile overall average. Tyre pressures ok, same load and same speed?

My concern is that because cars now are awash with sensors, detectors. transducers, pressure detectors that as something is going amiss is the car is showing its age, although only done 76K miles. When one sensor starts to go is that an indication that others are on the way out?
