Toyota Fixed Price Repair

Hi Folks

I had booked my car for a full service with a Toyota Dealer using the Toyota website . Few hours after picking up my car they called me to share the list of advises/findings - one of which was regarding the Front Brake Pads and Disc needing replacement which they said would cost me 333.26 £.I checked the price quoted for this on the Toyota website's Fixed Price Repair section and found it to be 240 £. The dealer wont lower the quote though. Toyota's social media team told me that every dealer offers Fixed Price Repair and apologized to me since this was clearly not the case with the dealer in my area. But then their Customer Relations said the exact opposite i.e. only some dealers offer fixed price repair and the only way to find out which ones is to call them up before hand, also the same dealer can give different responses as there is no formulated list of such dealers available to the customers or to Toyota customer relations. None of the dealers in my area offer fixed price repair which is not helpful. So for me the fixed price repair seems no more than a gimmick on toyota website.

Anyways I found Halfords offer a life time replacement for the same cost as Toyota's fixed price repair (240 ish for front pads and discs replacement, VAT and labour included). And I am planning on getting this sorted with them

I am posting this to share this recent experience and to see if anyone has any opinion on this matter which may be useful to me.

Thanks

The only thing I can imagine is the London dealers are not able to offer the FPS due to their higher cost base. I think you will find it available just about everywhere else

The website used to have a disclaimer saying 'at participating dealers'. Ordinarily I would suggest trying another dealer, but as you're using Halfords, there is little point.

You will void your warranty if you go with Halfords. Which dealer in London?

Many thanks for your responses Parts King, FrostyBalls, ToyotaAuris.

@ToyotaAuris, so any repairs done outside of Toyota Dealer network will void the Toyota 5 year manufacturers Warranty? I was under the impression since brake pads and discs are counted as wear and tear (and as a result not covered in Toyota warranty) could be maintained/repaired separately.

The dealer I went to is Currie Motors Twickenham.

They are consumables. As long as they are of equivalent or better specification to that which Toyota stipulates your warranty will remain intact (EU block exemption --you cannot be obliged. as a condition of warranty, to have your car serviced by a franchised dealer). What you may lose is goodwill consideration should you have an issue out of warranty.

Just to note - Block Exemption only applies to the new car warranty. Manufacturers offering Approved Used or Extended warranties can stipulate who services the vehicle during the period of the Approved Used or Extended warranty.

True, but his profile car is a 2011 so (as long as it has under 100,000 miles) it is within the 5 year new car warranty introduced by Toyota UK in June 2010.

Thanks Heidfirst, FrostBalls

Exactly . Mine is a 2011 - and therefore still under toyota 5 year manufacturers warranty.

Also I read somewhere on this forum that toyota use Pagid Pads and Discs which is what Halfords are promising to use for replacement.

There is also another dealer near Currie motors and is literally 1 minute down the road from me called Hayes Toyota but I dont really use them, very rude staff but maybe you can try there?

So I did speak to Toyota Hayes last week and they promised to do it for 240 (which is the FPR rate on toyota) but not before telling me a sob story abt how this rate actually leaves them with only 3 quids in profit :nopity:

Based on the expert advice given above I am leaning towards Halfords (life time replacement even if you change cars) but it may be worth renegotiating with T Hayes to get a joint quote if both of us get it done with them - no grey areas on goodwill/warranty that way.

You could PM me if you are interested and we can sort something out with them, if you are not concerned with Warranty then may be Halfords would work for you.

Thing is that I think you might be able to get away with it. I have no idea how Toyota would find out that you even changed the brake pads and void your warranty. I'd give it a go if I was you. Haha Toyota Hayes, full of numnuts who ruin Toyota's reputation, why would you say "only £3 profit" to the customer, not your fault, thats Toyota's prices. I might change my pads but not 100% as im to sell the car within next few weeks or so, unless I choose to keep it then I might but will give Toyota a ring tomorrow to see their prices and will get back to you.

I thought they were Bosch pads and discs.

I have priced these parts for about €120.

They are not hard change if you feel brave enough.

I would be thinking even Halfords are quite pricey for stuff.
