My drivers side sunvisor will not stay up and drops blocking vision, getting annoying now but toyota want £172.00 !! For a new one, been onto amayama in Japan and currently out of stock but are around £77.00, tried one from a breaker who said it was good only to find out was worse than the one I have, after some investigations seems to be a common problem, anyone else had this issue or think of how to repair ? Have stuck piece of Velcro on for now but bit of a bodge.

Taking the above cost of a new one :( a Velcro strip maybe the way to go, or little magnetic contact pad.

I believe that it's the mounting near the middle of the roof that is a friction fit on the visor rod that keeps the visor in the desired position. Presumably yours has worn considerably perhaps because it has been removed and swivelled to the driver's window once too often.

Have you tried wrapping a bit of insulating tape around the rod on that side of the visor and then refitting into the clip? It won't last forever and will be a sacrificial fix as the visor is moved around but it will probably last for a while depending of course on how often you use the visor. Alternatively could you swap the two central fittings on both visors around if the passenger's is working OK? Then the tape fix would be on the passenger side which doesn't get used so much usually.

It's getting it apart without splitting the outside cover, have tried to pull rod out but won't come.

I'd have thought that, to see if it works, you would simply pull the visor out of the left-hand bracket and wrapp some insulating tape around the bit of the rod in the visor that you can see.

Yes I know what you are saying but if you remove the sunvisor completely and work it up and down you feel it snap shut inside which should hold it in that position when up but it doesn't feel good inside it. Thought I might be able to pull whole rod out and have a look. Tape around end will hold it tighter in holder so may try that to see if good enough to hold it. Grazy price for new one.
