Hi all

I have never owned a Toyota before but I am going to have a look at a Toyota Avensis 1.8 VVT-i T3-S 5dr tomorrow.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some pointers about what common issues this model has, and what I should be looking out for ?

I guess this is a popular question so if it has been answered somewhere could someone point me to the thread ?

Many thanks in advance

Paul

early VVTI's are notorious for burning oil.

I would only buy a 2003-2005 if it had a modified block, you can check this by ringing a local Toyota service dep to find out you will need a reg or vin number.

anything after July 2005 should be ok.

regular oil changes is a must as its chain driven

this is a good link;

In addition to the engine oil burning issue, the headlamp bulb holders are known to break. Bad enough that the bulbs are difficult to change.

A history of the car will be helpful, and ask the owner why the car is being sold. Transmission bearings can go.

As "I" has said , check Honest John and this forum.
