Rav4 Diagnostic Faultp0622

Hiya I'm a new member from Co. Durham....welcome all

I have a 2005 mk2 rav4 d4d, recently had timing belt replaced at 64,000 miles

since then the engine management light has come on with fault P0622 generator field F control circuit malfunction.

The garage that did the last work said I need a new alternator along with, maybe a new section of harness, adding up to a hefty bill. when you add the labour.

however the Battery hasn't lost any charge and the output from the alternator seems correct.

Has anyone had this trouble and know any answers?

Had a petrol rav before this diesel (love them both)......cheers thun

Do you have a volt meter to check the charge rate across the Battery ?

hiya Geoff, just did it myself and I'm no expert.

with the engine off it measured about 11.9 volts and running it was about 12.1 or 12.2

cheap voltmeter, but I think it's accurate.....cheers Tom

Sorry to say it's not charging, it needs to be 13.4-14.8v to be a decent charging rate :(. First basic check is big fuses in fuse box, the real basic one is the fan belt in good condition or is the belt adjuster is not keeping the belt tight.

Just thought of a problem that it could be, on the red positive terminal of the Battery is a black box, inside that black box are fusable links, if one of those as blown that could be the charging fault...good luck.

I will leave it to Geoff as he has started, just want to say that any good Battery supplier has the equipment to not only check the Battery but the charge rate as well. might be worth having that done as you seem to have doubt about your tester which may well be reading low, also alternators can be serviced

Del

PS welcome from me also

I would go straight to the fusable link on the Battery in the morning :)

thanks for the help fella's, now run out of options, checked all fuses including in line ones, belt tension is good,re-tested voltage with a new meter and it wont put out more than 12.1volts. going to bight the bullet and get a new alternator fitted (like the rav too much to get something different)

apparently on normal running the charging system coped fine, but up here in the frozen north, having to run the car with AC, screen heater ,lights, fan etc. caused enough drain to trigger the diagnostic warning light.

anyway thanks again Tom.
