Got a 51 plate celica and it's developed a problem with starting, when you turn the key it's not even trying to fire, av had the Battery tested today and it's fine, will start by putting a jumper pack on it, although av just tried again with the jumper pack and it won't fire, has anyone else had this problem that can assist me

Hi Mark,your post does not really give enough information to enable a possible solution to your problem to be offered.

You say the with 2 batteries in circuit it started and now it wont,is the engine turning over as fast as it did before you had the problem, as this may still be an electrical one. This will be a start point to enable any member who can help to try to sort it

No it was starting first turn every time on Friday, went to start yesterday and it wouldn't even turn over, but it turned over and started with a Battery booster on it, av had the Battery tested today and it's 100% ok, a put Battery back on and it won't even try to turn over there's nothing at all at turn ov key, and it won't now start either with battery booster on

Do the dashboard lights come on and if so do they stay on when you turn the key to "start"?

Are you getting a click or clicks when you turn the key

This means that there is no feed to the solenoid which may point to a fault with the ignition switch i.e. the contacts on the start circuit are dirty or burnt, might be worth putting something like WD 40 and switching the key on to start back again a few times

Tried with wd40 and still the same am pulling my hair out lol

If there is a feed to the solenoid and no click then it cannot be operating the heavy duty contacts that supply the high current that is demanded by the starter This does not mean the starter needs replacing as the solenoid is bolted on top of the starter and that part can be changed

There is a way to check this feed but I realise that not everyone is,shall we say, born with a spanner in their hand so how far do I go

Find the thin wire which is fastened to the solenoid.and check if you have power at that end of it when you turn the key, if you do not have a tester, a bulb with two wires connected will do it.If using a bulb it does not matter which wire is earthed
