Yaris 1.5 Sport '04 Alarm Issue

Hi all - I have been searching around the forum a bit but not found anything conclusive on this

I have a 2004 Sport which is fantastic in pretty much all areas. But the alarm has been playing up.

So sometimes when we try and lock it with the key fob it won't lock (the led on the key fob lights up ok)

So we end up locking with the key.

So this is OK until we have to unlock the car. It won't now unlock with the key fob so we unlock it with the key - however the alarm then goes off - the alarm indicator by the handbrake is still lit!

So we drive off with the alarm blazing away and eventually it stops. But the alarm indicator stays on. When we get to our destination the alarm goes off again as we take the key out of the ignition. However now we are able to disable it with the key fob and lock the car with the fob properly

Any ideas (for my poor neighbours sanity!)

Thanks

Thank you for the replies so far

1) This happens with both key fobs and the led on the key fobs works ok plus this doesn't happen ALL the time, only sometimes makes me think it is not the key fob

2) I've had a new Battery in the vehicle and it still does it so it is not that

3) I have a vague suspicion (not yet proven!) but that it is worse in very wet weather ...

Any other ideas???

Your car is 10 years old. Key fob batteries are rarely changed until they stop working...I changed all ours at 9 years..

  • 2 weeks later...

So I have replaced the key fob batteries and the car has a new 12V Battery and it is still happening

Any ideas where I should be looking next?

Many thanks

Could be the door sensors. They may be sticking. So try a small amount of a light lubricant on them...
