Stuttering At 2000Rpm

morning community

i did a 300 mile journey yesterday in my 2004 1.8 petrol , about 30 miles in the car started to feel like it was having problems,

managed to complete the trip but limped home, at around 2000 revs in all gears the car would stutter and lose power, once up to 3000 it smoothed out if you let off slightly but held the revs , when it was doing this the engine warning light was flashing on and off

before journey the car has never done this , all i did before was top up fuel as had half a tank, i use the car every day and also did a 437 mile trip few weeks ago without a single hiccup

and ideas welcome

thanks

If the engine management light was coming on there will be a fault code registered. A fault reader can be bought for £10. This will point in the right directio. Possibly the vvt oil control valve - is the car regularly serviced?

www.engine-light-help.com/generic-check-engine-light-codes.html

This site lists all generic and manfacturer specific OBDII codes. The first suggests a misfire on cylinder 2. The second a transmission issue. Good luck.

Ok, i don't know the name in english. Google translation was "coil" or "coil pack" I think this cause the problems. Check the wiring.

Okey, i think the right word is "ignition module" :)

Hi mate, if cars misfiring its probally a easy fix. Code will be something similar to "engine misfire cylinder 1/2/3". If its the same code then you need a ignition coil. It costs around £30 max and to fit maybe £10 labour depending on your mechanic. I'd also change my spark plugs while your doing it, its a good idea.

Thanks for replies. It's on hold till after weekend due to work but I was thinking swap out new plugs and get a coil pack. Seems I need a new plug spanner also as mine won't fit .

Bit concerned about the other code as it suggests a transmission fault unless the above fault could produce this reading somehow
