Hi Guys,

new to the website and looking for some pro assistance with my toyota yaris,

has been running fine until started it a few days ago and revs were jumping up and down, it will hold revs on a cold engine when its driven for a while it stalls if u come to a stop and let go of the acceleration. changed the spark plugs, did a quick diagnostic check and came back with the following error codes:

P0300 Random/Multiple Cyclinder Misfire Detected

p0301 Cyclinder 1 Misfire Detected

p0302 cyclinder 2 Misfire Detected

p0303 Cyclinder 3 Misfire Detected

p0304 Cyclinder 4 Misfire Detected

p0171 System Too Lean Bank 1

Taken the car to a garage and diagnosed a possible faulty Throttle Body, 2nd Garage diagnosed as a possible Air Flow sensor, please if anybody could explain which route to take first and what to change or do, could do with getting car back on road asap as struggling to get children to school on time and also late for work without the car :(

Thanks in Advance

Wow thats ALOT of codes, possible engine on its way out since all cylinders misfiring. However them readings seem wrong. How long have you owned the car and whats the mileage? All cylinders cannot all misfire at once for no reason, there must be a cause to it. I don't think its the throttle body, its something else. I'd be looking at the ignition coil pack, all of them may need changing. First thing is to clear all the codes, try driving the car for a few miles and wait for engine light to come back and diagnose again, this will give a much more accurate result to the problem since all them codes could be previous codes which have been cured.

Hi thanks for the reply, ive owned the car since july last year, 83000 miles, has been running great until now, only missfires if revs are low if you keep accelerator pressed engine is smooth, doesnt seem to be idling correcty, will have to get my brother to read the codes again and see what i get back, will keep you posted

Oh right, 83,000 miles is not alot and you have owned it for some time. I personally think that you need a new coil pack.

I would say both garages could be right but i would start with a throttle control valve as this caused mine to stall alot. Thats is on the throttle body

Each cylinder has its own coil pack. It is very unlikely they are all faulty.

I would suggest:

Dirty MAF sensor.

Idle control valve faulty.

Carbonned up throttle body.

Wrong spark plugs fitted.. You did fit the correct type?
