Hi guys, hope you are well.

I'm a newbie so please go easy on me .

I'm looking for advice on buying around an 05 Avensis , probably a petrol .

I used to deliver these , and really rated them.

I'm drawn towards the petrol as I really hate changing timing belts , & my wife will only be doing around 5k a year in it.

I'm fairly decent with the tools so my only real worry is this oil burning issue.

So here goes ,

Is there an actual definitive answer to when Toyota resolved this ?

I read Around 2005 , but is there an engine/vin I can check against ?

And,,, do the 2.0l suffer as well ?

Most posts I have read seem to be related to the 1.8 .

I had a 55 plate which had a sort-of tappet noise when cold. I reckoned it was the start of the oil burning problem. Couldn't tell you what it's engine number was tho.

Edit... I believe the 2.0 was unaffected, it's just the 1.8
