Hi,

I need a bit of help from you. I've got my whole car repainted after severe hail storm last summer. Since then I find my headlamps slightly different. Would you take a picture of the spot that your headlights make on a flat wall from 2-3 m distance? My headlights are with xenon bulbs so please do it only if yours is also equipped with xenon headlights.

At the dealership they say the headlights are aligned perfectly but I think they have different height adjustments and one if them is pointing slightly downwards.

Thank you in advance!

Whey would the garage tell you the headlights were aligned if they weren't, it would only take them minutes to check and adjust if need be.

Rather than getting forum members to post pictures which would be meaningless unless they were all taken on perfectly level ground and at the same distance would it not be better to take it to another garage and have them check the headlight alignment.

Because I don't believe them (remember, I am not in UK). I can see with my eyes there is difference between my left and right headlight. It doesn't matter if the picture is taken on uneven road, because the difference between the left and right headlight will be the same (if there is difference) unless you twist the car or mess with the alignment.

I clearly remember there was no difference but in Toyota they say it is normal one of the headlights to be slightly downwards. I need to see 1-2 images just to be sure and then I'll go there and I won't get away until they fix this.

You can't compare RHD drive cars with headlamps which are dipped downwards and left with Continental models with lamps designed to point in the opposite direction. A correctly adjusted UK car will have different heights and angles on the lamps as the beam is designed to point down towards the kerb but converge at roughly the same point, I am not sure what the requirements for beam pattern are on the continent.

Yes, I can. It is simple geometry. And I repeat I need to check the height difference between the two lamps, nothing more!

Let me make it simple - I need to check if line 3 on both headlamps is at the same level. It doesn't matter if the arc is to the right (as mine) or to the left as yours.

From the sound of it you have made up your mind that the alignment is wrong so it realy won't make any difference what you are told here.

If you are so certain that the lights should be at the same height, despite what Toyota are telling you, and it makes no difference about whether or not the car is level and the same distance from the wall and being simply a height measurement at line 3, why don't you just adjust them yourself to the height that you want them at. It's a simple job to adjust them up or down or take it to a garage that you do trust and have them adjust them.

You got it right. I needed to see 1-2 images just to be sure line 3 has to be at the same level and I'll make the adjustments by myself.
