Sat Nav Dvd Update Dates

I've got a 2007 Rav4 with the original satnav DVD and I'm thinking of upgrading to the latest DVD map. Although the £125 to update is a bit steep, I don't mind paying the price if it's worth it. My question is when to buy said update. Does anyone know the best time of year? According to the Toyota website, they update the maps once a year, but when? I don't want to update now only to find out there's another update in, say, April or May. Can anyone enlighten me

Just pop into your local Toyota Dealer and they will tell you the EXACT month and year of the last release and the next release.

When I was updating mine (sorry cannot remember the month), I popped into my Toyota dealer and he told me to wait for another 3 months as there was another update due.

The release dates are the same whether you have a HDD sat nav system (must be updated at a Toyota dealer via download to the cars hard drive) or a CD sat nav system (can be purchased via Toyota dealer or bought on line via Toyota EU Map Updates).

It's always worth waiting if you are halfway through the year, but the choice will be yours.

Bobby:

Thanks for this. I actually got in touch with the people who update the maps, and this is the response I got:

"Thank you for your interest in the Toyota Map Updates Website.

Usually Toyota releases a map update twice a year, in spring and in autumn. the last released updates have the suffix -0H to indicate that they were released in October 2014.

We do not possess the information yet when Toyota is planning to release the next map update in spring but last year this was in April 2014."

So I'll probably wait until April.

the alternative is to take your £150 & buy a new Garmin/TomTom. SatNav technology has moved on in 8 years plus if you buy wisely you will get a unit with "lifetime" free updates.

Cant do with wires showing anywhere in my cars and the fact that you would have to unplug it and hide it because it would get knicked !!!.

Manufacturers built in sat nav systems are a total ripoff when it comes to updates and I do admit that the Tom Toms, Garmin etc are more user friendly and have better options, but you cannot beat a proper built in one which makes the car look better.

So I am one of the suckers who pay for the upgrades when they come out !!!

I'm with you. Doesn't make sense to mount a tom tom or garmin or road angel when there's a built in one. It would be too much of a hassle. Besides, I don't need to upgrade every time there is a new update. Every two or three years will do me. But mine is eight years old, so time to upgrade.
