Hi Guys,

Steve here saying Hi to all.

I have very recently bought a (March 2009) Auris SR 180 with the 2.2 Diesel engine. It's just passed it's

MOT with no problems on the diesel emisson test. The car has done 76600 miles with a reasonable

service history. I went for a test drive in it and was a bit dismayed by the lack of performance but the

car had been standing still for about 2 months/test drives.I got it at a bargan price ! I did lots of

research into these cars and the problems with the engine having read about all the problems on this

forum I decided it was worth the price I paid. After half a tank of regular diesel and the addition of a

diesel additive it now performs very well and delivers 35-40 mpg. In this weather I consider this to be

quite good.....

Now onto my question, after all I have read it appears that Toyota made significant

changes to this engine in late 2008 to prevent the dreaded EGR/ Head Gasket/Soot build up

problems and so

a new engine. Can anyone verify this ? I can supply my VIN number if that helps. It seems these

modifications( Head Gasket material, EGR valve change/ layout plus other mods) have almost

solved the dreaded engine problem...... anyone had 2009 2.2 diesel engine changed ?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks,

Steve.

Hello Steve - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Have a read of the first post in the following topic - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/132178-charliefarlies-guide-to-the-toyota-2ad-diesel-engine-and-its-issues/

According to this topic, Auris with production dates between Sept 2007 and Sept 2009 could be affected by the head gasket problem

Thanks Frosty.Yes I have read this long post on the years affected. However I have also read about the modifications to the engine in late 2008…There seems to be lots of the pre 2008 engines suffering but little or non post 2008.Can anyone confirm there was modifications in late 2008?

Thanks Steve.
