Mr2 Rev2 Bad Weather Handling Problems

Recommended Posts

Posted

im posting this as my dad - previously owned a mr2 2.0l 16v n/a, is against me buying me mr2 turbo as he found the car - not a turbo, just injection, hard to handle in the snow + bad weather, Is this true?

I know that the car is a rear wheel drive but has any1 else had this problem with the car. Im still going to buy the car just wondering what its like to drive in these conditions, as ive only ever drove one in good weather.

Cheers

as long as you got good tyres and youre not flooring it through corners its fine. With a turbo you have to keep off the boost especially in snow/heavy rain. All the claims on them being "deathtraps" in bad weather are highly exagurated. MR2's are fine if not great cars in bad weather, far far better than my dads fwd car. And it's only if the drivers being an idiot or theyre inexperienced that they can get into trouble. The trouble is that mr2s are not very forgiving so once youre in trouble, youre in deep trouble!

as a real example ive got toyo's on the back and theyve worn down to almost being slicks i.e. less than 1mm tread! (i've ordered new ones officer), but even still they give amazing grip in the wet as long as i keep off the boost as i exit a corner.

As long as you understand how to drive in snow (lower tyre pressures, higher gears etc.) and don't be silly, it's fine ..

If you old man is that worried, tell him to stump up some cash to get you a rev3 (with the better suspension and brakes) as it'll be safer :)
