Right. I am formatting my H/D so may be offline for sometime.

The machine was "entry level" 3.5 years ago and is suffering big time. I have upgraded and done "things" to it over it's time of ownership. I could really do with something more powerful with more speed and memory, but can't afford anything for a while.

My computer usage has changed over this time too, so a full overhaul is needed.

The spec is:

Processor: AMD-K6 3D icon8.gif

500MHz

Memory: 152Meg Ram

Graphics: GeForceII MX200/400

H/D: 5Gig (only 445Meg Free)

OS: Win 98SE

If anyone has something more reliable and more powerfull that they practically want to give away (cos I can afford not much :P ) please send an email to cinamin_g@hotmail.com - I'll be able to pick mails up using Nicola's puter for the time being...

Cheers

My other half built my new PC for me for a hundred quid, using spare stuff he had lying around and stuff from my old PC....

He works in IT anyway so he has all these processors and hard drives just laying about! I keep telling him to sort his stuff out - so he did and I got a new PC! :D

Anyway, its not like its a mega-pooter or anything, but its good enough for me (as long as I can play The Sims on it, I'm happy enough! :D )

i think the first thing you have to ask your self is : what do you use this computer for?

i'm running pc's as well

but i have just got into Apple mac's!( about a year ago) i find them as relible as a rock and most of the programs (microsoft office) stuff like that work's to a from pc to mac and back again with no problems.

The other thing is if a 'Computer" is not part of your life style then Apple have got some Imac computers which for a Very fully stocked 'All In One' computer it's very good indeed!

If i can help in any other way please let me know.

true true

if youve got a half a knowlege to what computers need to run then its really not that hard to build one

all you need is a shopping list which im sure some of the bods on here can sort you out with and then get down to one of the local computer fairs and pick all the gubbins up where they are likely to be half as much than what PC world would like to charge you

I haven't quite gotten around to formatting this one (PC) yet... It will be the 4th or 5th time... I have only just finished doing a complete back-up (after going shopping and all).

Unfortunately right now getting the car sorted and saving for another MR2 is a priority. So there is not much-to-no money available for a PC :( If there were I would have built myself a PC a long time ago. I have done them a few times for work, but they are pretty much built for specific audio only purposes. Building one for home wouldn't be much different and I would probably be able to get the parts from our suppliers for decent prices.

It was just a long-shot. If anyone had an old machine lying around (that was more powerful than the one I currently have) and they wanted to offload it, send me a PM or email ;) Cheeky, I know :P :D

See yaw'll later :)

Having problems finding the correct drivers for everything

Need to remove all the up-grades installed over the years, install original drivers and then re-install all the upgrades one at a time <_<

Upgrades:

Ram

Video card

Modem

Network card (Have disc)

Sound card

Printer (Have disc)

Scanner (Have disc)

Camera (Have disc)

(Keyboard (Have disc)

Previously there were IRQ and COM problems and conflicts, I am trying to avoid it this time...
