Hi

Looking at a newer (but not new) Avensis and wondering whether these have stop/start stuff? Not sure how I feel about this feature as I have seen a few cars very slow off from traffic lights and nearly stuffed up the back and I wondere if that was SS?

As far as I'm aware the only Toyota of the current range that has stop/start is the Auris 1.33.

Certainly with the two Auris I've had with stop/start there hasn't been any issue with being slow off the mark in traffic (that is in Birmingham where traffic can be heavy) - the engine restarts as soon as the clutch is depressed to select first gear, and delay is minimal.

Having said that, I've driven a Skoda Citigo Excellence (same as VW Up/Seat Mio) with stop/start, and that system was a lot cruder and slower to react than the Auris.

I also have the Auris with the stop start. Car fires up in less than a second. There is no delay, if you push down the clutch when the light is amber it will be ready to go by green light.

At present only the 1.33 & 1.4D Auris and 1.6D Verso have stop start but as Auris is due the new 1.6D and Avensis is due the new 1.6D & new 2.0D ( Both from BMW as per the Verso ) it is fair to assume that the Avensis will get the stop start. Although we will have to wait until nearer May when both the new Auris and Avensis are launched to be sure.
