[Video] Yaris Exhaust Corroded

Hi all, my girlfriends Yaris exhaust started rattling/blowing when under low revs. I jacked her up and saw the back box had rusted away from the mid-pipe mounts. Check out the video:

I'm not the best when it comes to cars and I can't figure out how it's connected. Do I need a new back box or just the mount? It looks like the rust on the end of the back box is some sort of "connector" separate to the back box, similar to this:

Is that right? Will it then need welding?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Paul and welcome to you and your girlfriend to the club

It would appear that that was a poor weld of the pipe onto the flange and would suggest that it could be welded back on, however it needs a closer inspection by someone with welding experience to look at it as the thin part i.e the pipe may be too rusted to do this.

You could try an independent tyre and exhaust fitter to check this and if told they can only replace that section try someone else for a second opinion, you have nothing to lose with that

Looks like a bad weld, plenty of metal on the flange to re-weld, safer to remove from car and repair on welders bench.

Ok thanks guys. I'll take it the local garage, hopefully it won't cost me too much! :D

Agree with the exhaust being welded off the car but would suggest tack welding whilst still on so that there is no strain on the mountings due to any misalignment on the re-connection of the two parts
