Hi all

Decided to clean my egr valve the other day, cleaned it out with carb cleaner put it all back together and now the engine management ligjt is on any ideas? Also there is a rumbling noise comming from the engine bay around 2k rpm and upwords this is leading me to believe it could be diffective swirl flaps does anyone know where these are located and if it is possible to just take them out as to leasen the chances of them being injested into the engine, any help would be greatly appriciated.

are you able to the engine light read, is it the 2004 d4d you have? 2.0 or 2.2?

I am thinking the air intake pipe in rattling in the airbox as you have most likely removed the airbox if you have a 2.0 to clean the egr.

Its a 2.0 d4d will check for a rattling intake pipe as i did remove the air box did screw it back up but worth a other check, not anle to read the engine light tho, apart from rumbling noise car run ok

"guys" its only me commenting haha

get your self a basic code reader off eBay worth having around £10-£20. I have the d900 2012 version, have tried it on Vauxhalls and Toyota and ford all works did not work on renault.

Engine code reader is a good idea, engine light was a loose maf sensor wire so that should knock itself off, packed the tube to the air box as the foam surronding it was loose but the knocking noise is still there and persistant around 2k rpm leading me to think its something more sinister.

if you've fixed the wire t,hen disconnect Battery negative for 10 mins then refit, this should clear the light.

is it the 1cd-ftv engine you have? same as me

I blanked my egr 2 years ago and never had any problems

only thing is light comes on for a po400 fault if I remember right, from what ive read there is no way round this? as the maf is expecting less air pulled through it when egr is meant to let the recirculated air through as well.

it means egr flow fault and this is calculated over a period of time before light is triggered hence I get 50 miles before the light comes on

I clear light before it goes for mot as it takes 50 miles to re appear

engine runs sweet

clean valves etc

clean oil

clean exhaust

great fast pass smoke test on mot ( 0.48).

as for rattle/rumble good shout for the intake hose to airbox connection.

trattles can be misleading on these cars

I bought a strut top mount after checking steering and finding no wear items, to find the plastic undershield was knocking on the chassis leg

also check for loose exhaust shielding

Can you get a video?

take the plastics engines covers off the one at the front and the on the left hand side and the main cylinder head cover with d-4d sign take it for a drive and see if its still there.

did this noise start after the egr clean or was it there before?

Will check for loose exhaust sheilding etc and dissconect the Battery to reset the eml light tomoz cheers, as for the noise removed all the plastic covers and the noise is still there, seems to be comming from under the intake manifold sort of a rumble the increases with rpm, so still sort of steering towards swirl flap/ valve issue although ive bern told these are pretty reliable on toyotas.

good luck

ive had no big issues with my car but thinking back when removing turbo hose etc to blank my egr there is a pre manifold deceleration valve or something there. be interested to dig a bit further but im rarely under the bonnet exept from regular oil changes and fluid checks.
