Toyota Yaris Hybrid Cannot Start

Hi

I am new to this forum so please excuse me if I ask for something that was mentioned here already.

Yesterday when I was driving I have switched of in vehicle settings keyless entry and start option.

I thought it has no implication as I do not have keyless entry anyway and there is no other option to start a car.

Today morning I opened door with a remote as usual but then when I have pressed the start button nothing happened. Not even one light on a dashboard, nothing. I thought about setting I had changed but I cant access them as you need to start a screen.

I called toyota but they explained that it must be a small Battery that gone flat. I may be wrong but I think there is no small Battery in my car. If there is, would it be possible to change it yourself rather than tow my care to toyota and pay for it.

Anyone have any solution or thought I will much appreciate.

Thank you,

Dariusz

The 12 volt auxiliary Battery is located under the right hand side of the rear seat. Are you not in a breakdown service - the AA, RAC, Toyota Roadside Assistance?

If you have a start button, you have keyless start.

If the central locking worked then you probably have some power in the 12v (small) Battery.

You could try holding the key right against the start button as you press it - this is also what you would do if the tiny Battery in the key was flat.

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I am not as I do buy new cars so I do not have to worry to much about this things.

By any chance to you know if it is possible to replace this Battery with out going to the service or dose it need to be done by authorised dealer.

Thank you,

Dariusz

Thank you PeteB

I have tried both set of keys and non of them worked. Battery in them fine as you can open car from a long distance. Only when I try to start it there is absolutely nothing going on. I can turn the lights on and do but nothing that required the key.

Thank you,

Dariusz

If you haven't tried it I would still try holding a key against the start button as you press it - switching off the setting may have stopped the button working when they key is elsewhere in the car.

There is no auxiliary ignition key slot whatsoever in my Yaris Hybrid, that I am aware of. And I've owned it more than two years. The physical key is door opening only AFAIK. My Nissan qashqai also with keyless start, the ign switch cover slips off and reveals a traditional key slot. Not in the Toyota. Call the dealer.

Do as PeteB has said, there is a specific procedure to follow, so you may need to check the handbook, but its something along the lines of put foot on brake, hold the key fob against the start button until the light comes up on it (might be 10-15 seconds), then hit start as you normally would.

Let us know how this goes :)

Have a look at page 620 of the owners manual.

Hi Everybody

Thank you very much for your help. It was easy. I just had to place fob over the start button. When I turned off remote key start that what happened. I am angry with the service as I have explained that so they should know.

Thank you,

Dariusz

I would imagine that it is difficult to properly diagnose a fault over the phone Presumably you have breakdown cover, so why not get someone out to physically deal with the car.

Post 4 states no breakdown cover from what I can gather.

Seems a bit short sighted - we buy new cars, but maintain the breakdown cover if this expires during our ownership. Probably could have got the problem solved a lot quicker if they had maintained the cover - £66 per annum isn't a great amount:

What Frosty said. Breakdown cover is only £66 a year for full breakdown including home start and Europe cover (if I recall correctly). What a bargain.

The information was also in the owners manual. Always worth a read and it's free.

I did the exact same thing as you did soon after I got the car with the same result. However, the procedure that Mike has suggested worked perfectly (Page 620 of the manual) and got me up and running again...
