Hi guys,

Good start to the new year?

Enjoying my t180, however over the last few weeks my clutch has started to squeak when depressed, is this a sign of the clutch going?

Tried a cautious spray of WD40 on the pedal pivot?

Gotta agree with Frosty here................................is the squeak inside the car by the foot area or do you think it is coming from outside?

Hi the noise is coming from the inside of the car.

I have not tried wd40 where shall I spray?

The biting point is on the dip of the clutch, I've not driven another t180 has everyone else got this dip/groove on the clutch.

Personally I thought the biting point was quite high, hence my worry. If I've come off the clutch too fast in 1st hear it does stall, is this a sign the clutch is still ok?

A little worries as am have seen some posts on here with extortionate repairs.

Hi Jonny.

First of all get some old rag to put under the pedals to catch any excess WD40 that may drip down, remove the top inner removeable carpet if you have one to save marking it up with the WD40, put the old rag under where the pedals are and spray the WD40 where the cable attaches to the pedal and where the pedal has a largish pivot horizontal rod that it pivots on. Work the pedal a few times and repeat the spraying using the old rag to catch any drips from the lubricant, of course finally replace the over-carpet.

Hard to say exactly online if your clutch needs replacing without knowing more info....how many miles has the car done? Clutches last say 70,000 to 90,000 miles depending on how it has been driven. One test is to make sure you have a large gap in front of you, put the handbrake on firmly, put the car in 3rd gear and try and pull away, if the car stalls then it suggests the clutch has not worn out yet, if it just slips then it could well be time for a new clutch.

Yes clutches on Rav's are expensive to get replaced and it is worth getting say 3 quotes to compare.

Good luck, Mike

Thanks, I will try put the clutch in 3rd and see how it does.

The car has covered 130k now.

Tried the 3rd gear against a high resistance handbrake, car stalled. Am I out of danger?

Hi Jonny.

it looks like you are out of trouble for now and the clutch may last many, many more miles yet depending on how it is driven.

Generally the higher up the pedal 'releases' or allows the car to drive is an indication as to how worn the clutch is but the fact your car stalls in 3rd gear indicates it's got life in it yet.

If i were you i'd just concentrate on the annoying squeaky pedal using WD40/rag etc as i mentioned erlier in this thread and just enjoy your car.

If ever your clutch starts slipping whilst under load, i.e. going up hill or towing something then that's the time it will need repacing and as mentioned they are expensive to get replaced.

Good luck mate, Mike.

The squeak is probably nothing to do with a worn clutch itself, more like something needing WD40 as suggested.

The high biting point probably indicates that the clutch is worn, but the stall test means that it still has enough material left on it to work ok. Clutches can last years like this, or weeks - If you're not hard on clutches you'll probably get a while from it, and it'll eventually start to slip giving you a bit of warning.
