What Does This Button Do?

I have a Japanese Import 1990 camry(newer 1990 model). Its a 2.0 diesel automatic. Next to the gear lever there is a small red button with Japanese writing on it. Anybody know what it does? Also there is a button on the gear lever with O/D written on it - I presume this stands for over drive but I'm not sure as I haven't owned an automatic before. Anybody any ideas?

O/D button is, as you guessed, overdrive.

(Just leave it in all the time....most of us do.)

The Red button is an interlock bypass button. You can't change from Park into any gear unless you have your foot on the Brake pedal and the ignition on. The red button bypasses the interlock.........not much use unless you are taking the stereo out and need the gear lever out of the way.

Just tell people it's the ejector seat. :D

Hope this makes sense to you, and Welcome to TOC.
