Auto Headlights Sensitivity Settings

MEP's Yaris GS

Recommended Posts

Hi, we've a 2014 Yaris Trend which has replaced our original 2001 Yaris GS - A bit of a step up in the world.

Just wanting to know if anyone has managed to work out the sensitivity settings for the auto headlights?

I want to work out whether I need it on max +ve or -ve in the settings to make them come on as early as possible as soon as its only slightly over cast (hope this makes sense).

Would have thought that +ve would increase the sensitivity and -ve would decrease the sensitivity - so if you want them to be more sensitive to the light level (ie to turn on early), it needs to be max +ve.

I've played about with mine (an Avensis) while the car was being driven on a dull(ish) day. Moving to minus turned the lights off, so moving to positive should bring them on earlier, as suggested by frostyballs.

Where is this + & - switch, I'm sure ours has only 'auto' option?

Within the touch and Go options.

I wondered about that too. It is mentioned in the handbook in the lights section but states that it can only be changed using specialised equipment at a dealer (Page 299). Therefore I didn't follow up on it.

However, delving further into "customisation" it would appear that, as Jonathan says it's possible in the T & G options using the touchscreen as well as the dealer. Default at 3 and sensitivity range 1-5. (page 690)

I don't use the auto lights function anyway, I'll decide when they go on, not a computer.

Managed to have a play on the weekend, on a wet dull day, and can confirm the same findings with the Yaris, minus turned them off in the dull conditions and positive turned them back on.
